Earlier when we were talking about Chicken Recipes, we were discussing that Chicken Curry is the most popular recipe in the World and it is the only Recipe Dish available throughout the World. Likewise in Fish Recipes too Fish Curry Recipe is the Most Popular Recipe, cooked and served throughout the World.
Fish Curry generally refers to the Kerala Matthi Curry or Malabar Matthi Curry. Usually Fish Curry is served with the Rice, Naan, Bread or Tapioca in Kerala and only with Rice in Bangladesh, West Bengal, where rice and fish are the staple foods.
Fish curry is also very popular in all south-east Asian countries like Malayasia, Singapore, Thailand, etc.
Fish Curry is the semi stewed fish in a gravy often prepared with just fish and some vegetables like onion and tomato. Fish Curry is one dish available in all restaurants and it is made in a lot of variations..
- Vanjaram fish – 400 gms
- Tomato – 1
- Onion – 1
- Ginger garlic paste – 1 tsp
- Garam masala – ¼ tsp
- Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp
- Red chilli powder – 2 tsp
- Coriander powder – 2 tsp
- Coriander – for garnishing
- Curd – 2 tsp
- Salt – to taste
- Oil – 3 tblsp
- Mustard – ¼ tsp
- Fenugreek – ¼ tsp
Chop onion and tomato finely. Clean the fish and marinate with turmeric, red chilli powder and salt and keep aside for 30 minutes.
Heat oil in a pan and add mustard and fenugreek. When they crackle add onion and ginger garlic paste and sauté till its raw smell goes. Then add tomato, coriander and spices powders one by one and sauté few more minutes.
Add curd, salt and required amount of water and bring to boil. Add marinated fish in the gravy and cover the pan with a lid and cook till done.
Open the lid and bring to boil when the gravy reaches the required consistency, remove from the flame and serve hot with rice or any Indian breads.
