Red Coconut Chutney is a simple and ideal anywhere, anytime, accompaniment for South Indian Dishes. Whether it is idly or dosa or vada or bajji, it is always the winner. It takes hardly two minutes to make this with just coconut, red chiilli and salt, if you want you can add so many additives like, dal, coriander, tomato, garlic, ginger, etc,.
Come now let us see how to make simple Red Coconut Chutney
- Coconut – 1 cup
- Fried gram(pottu kadalai) – 2 tblsp
- Red chilli – 3- 4
- Garlic cloves – 2
- Tamarind – tiny bit
- Salt – to taste
- For Seasoning:
- Oil – 2 tsp
- Mustard – 1/4 tsp
- Urad dal – 1/4 tsp
- Curry leaves – few
Grate the coconut. Peel the garlic. Grind coconut, red chilli, pottu kadalai, tamarind, garlic and salt in a mixie with required amount of water.
Heat oil in a Tadka pan(thalikkum karandi) and add the seasoning. When they crackle, add to ground chutney and serve with idly or dosa.
Use ginger instead of garlic.
Add few coriander leaves while grinding then the aroma will be nice.
