how to Clean Chicken cleaning chicken before cooking
It is time for me to reveal one truth to you; that is, basically I am a Vegetarian. All along my life I have been a Vegetarian and I have been brought up that way. But I cook Chicken. My husband says that my Chicken is always good and he prefers homemade chicken recipes than the restaurant ones. But it is different in the case of my Son, Arvind, he prefers restaurant recipes than the homemade ones, especially the deep fried ones or the tandoori one. Though I do not eat I prepare very good chicken. It is up to you to make, taste and then decide whether I am good in Chicken or only the Vegetarian stuff.
Now it’s time to see how to Clean the Chicken.
Normally my husband does this and he is good in cleaning and relishing chicken. He does not come near cooking at all he loves my cooking.
In olden days the country chicken was only preferred than the broiler chicken. In those days cleaning chicken used to be a laborious job. I have seen people spending hours together cleaning chicken before cooking. In those days chicken will be throat slit, feathers plucked and turmeric powder will be rubbed into the chicken and it will be shown in the direct fire to remove small feathers. Then it will be opened and crop cleaned and washed well in water and then cut into smaller pieces. This chicken will be with bone and with skin.
Now things are entirely different, only broiler chicken is available. People have become more cautious about their health and they want to avoid all unwanted fatty substances and want to be more health conscious.
Again now chicken is available in super markets as skinned, freshly packed meat. There are various variations in the chicken available. Breasts, Curry Cut, Boneless, Kheema, wings, etc., are the variations now available. You have the choice to select them according to the recipe which you are going to prepare. Or else you have another choice, to buy chicken as a whole, freshly cut in small shops in the nearby areas.

Either of the chicken has to be properly cleaned. The right way to clean the chicken is to cut into pieces and then clean. You can use plastic tubs or vessels to clean.
You have to soak the chicken in cold water for about 5 – 10 minutes, then wash them in mild soap liquid(1/8 teaspoon), then wash again in raw water and then wash with little vinegar. You can add 5 – 10 ml of vinegar in 1 liter of water and wash the chicken finally. Then comes the use of turmeric.
As India is known for its herbs and their wonderful action on our daily life, Turmeric is one such thing. Turmeric serves as an ideal antiseptic. As Chicken is always cut with iron knives, they are likely to contain some micro organism or other. To avoid contamination of these microorganisms, after cleaning the chicken you can spread 5 – 10 grams of turmeric powder over the chicken and keep aside to act for about 30 minutes. If you are particular, you can clean the turmeric powder before cooking or you can use it as it is. Once the chicken is ready, it is up to you to decide and choose the recipe and go ahead.

Uncooked Chicken can be stored in refrigerator for only two days under Indian conditions. Cooked chicken should be kept only for 2 hours at room temperature or else it should be refrigerated. The refrigerated cooked chicken should be consumed within two days and it should not be stored for more than that. As chicken can very well be decomposed, it should be consumed at the earliest.
