TomatoPachadi is a traditional Chettinad Recipe often prepared only in Chettinad Homes. Now a days some restaurants are also trying to imitate this dish. Some big restaurants in Cities like Chennai are trying to include these also in their regular menus.
TomatoPachadi is a dish which is both suitable for the Tiffin as side dish and as side dish for rice. If the dal is more then it is suitable for Tiffin, if the dal is less then it is suitable for rice as side dish.
TomatoPachadi is a very good side dish for meals in the afternoons. It tastes sour and nice. TomatoPachadi has a unique taste slightly similar to Tomato Sambar.
Now let us how to make TomatoPachadi



Ingredients:
- Tomato – 3 medium
- Tuvar dal – ¼ cup
- Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp
- Green chilli – 8
- Onion – 1
- Coriander – 3 tblsp
- Salt – to taste
- To Temper:
- Oil – 2 tsp
- Mustard – ¼ tsp
- Urad dal – ¼ tsp
- Cumin seed – ¼ tsp



Method:
Half cook tuvar dal with turmeric powder. Chop Tomato into small cubes. Slit green chillies. Peel onion and cut.
Heat oil in a frying pan and add tempering items one by one. Then add onion and green chillies and sauté for a few minutes. Add chopped tomato and sauté for five to six minutes.
Add sauted tomato to the cooked dal. Add salt and cook till done. Finally add chopped coriander. Serve hot with rice.
