Chettinad Fish Kuzhambu is a very popular authentic karaikudi recipe cooked and served in chettinad. Chettinad Fish Kuzhambu is usually prepared with less spice and no batter.It is fried with coconut oil and is served along with lunch menu: Rice, Fish Kuzhambu, etc. Chettinad Fish Kuzhambu is usually an unbattered fish deep fried in oil.
Chettinad Fish Kuzhambu goes well as a starter or as a side dish along with other lunch recipes or dinner recipes. Chettinad Fish Kuzhambu is usually prepared with large fishes with less bones. Fish slices make a good choice but small whole fishes also taste better than the larger ones.

Ingredients:
- Fish – 400 gms
- Small onion – 10
- Garlic – 10
- Tomato – 1
- Tamarind – small lime size
- Curry leaves – few
- Kulambu podi – 3 tsp
- Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp
- Salt – to taste
- For seasoning:
- Oil – 3 tsp
- Mustard – ½ tsp
- Cumin – ¼ tsp
- Fenugreek – ¼
- To grind:
- Coconut – 4 tblsp
- Cumin – 1 tsp
- Pepper – 1 tsp
- Small onion – 5
- Ginger – ½ inch


Method:
Wash and marinate the fish with ½ tsp chilli powder, ¼ tsp turmeric powder and required amount of salt. Peel small onion and garlic.
Heat oil in a pan and add the seasonings.
When they crackle add curry leaves, onion, garlic and tomato one by one and sauté for a few minutes. Then add kulambu podi (sambar powder), turmeric powder and salt and stir.
Soak the tamarind in water and extract. Add tamarind water and mix well.
Grind coconut, cumin, pepper, small onion and ginger in the mixie.
Add ground paste and mix thoroughly with ladle and allow to boil. When it boils add the marinated fish one by one and cook till done. (Fish will be cooked in 10 minutes). Serve hot with rice or idli.

Note:
Don’t pressure cook. Fish will be cooked soon.
If you pressure cook the fish will be mushy.
