Coriander is one spice herb which is very popularly in use in the world. Coriander, is the unflowered plant part of the coriander seeds which are botanically known as coriandrum sativum.
Coriander is a herb which is available round the year. In rainy seasons it is quiet costly and not good. In summer season it is a bit costly but good. Some times it is very cheap.
When it is cheap you can make coriander thokku and keep in the refrigerator and can use it as a side dish with idli, dosa or hot rice and ghee. You can also make rasam with it in a few seconds and it tastes too good.

It is very simple to make coriander thokku you can make it yourself and relish
- Coriander – 1 bunch
- Red chilli – 6
- Urad dhal – 2 tsp
- Mustard – ½ tsp
- Asafoetida – ½ tsp
- Salt – to taste
- Tamarind – tiny lime size
- Oil – 2 tsp
Clean the coriander and chop. Heat oil in a pan and add mustard, urad dhal and asafoetida.
When they crackle add red chilli, salt, tamarind and sauté for a few minutes and keep aside.
In the same pan add coriander and sauté till its moisture goes off and allow it to cool. In the mixie add red chilli, urad dhal, mustard, asafoetida, salt and tamarind and grind.
Finally add coriander and grind. Coriander thokku will go well with dosa, chappathi, idli and curd rice.
You can store this thokku in the refrigerator for a week or two.
You can also make rasam by boiling this thokku with water and mashed tomatoes.
You can also make kothamalli sadham or coriander rice by adding this thokku to hot rice and gingelly oil.
