A square meals in Tamil Nadu or South India will consist of Koottu, Poriyal, Sambhar, Rasam, Butter Milk etc,.
The most common recipe in Poriyal category is the Beans Poriyal. It is easy to make and good to taste. It gives all the goodness of Beans. In this same manner Carrot can be also made as Poriyal.
Now let us see how to make Beans Poriyal


Ingredients:
- Beans – 150 gms
- Onion – 1
- Coconut – 2 tblsp
- Tuvar dal – ¼ cup
- Turmeric – ¼ tsp
- Red chilli – 2
- Mustard – ¼ tsp
- Urad dal – ¼ tsp
- Oil – 2 tsp
- Salt – to taste

Method:
Half cook the tuvar dal with turmeric powder. Chop onion finely. Cook beans in a required amount of water and salt.
Heat oil in a pan add mustard, urad dal, red chilli and onion one by one and sauté till the onion becomes soft.
Then add cooked beans, half cooked tuvar dal and coconut and stir well. If you want salt you can add and mix thoroughly. Serve with sambar rice.

Note:
Don’t waste the stock water or you can cook beans in the little amount of water.
You can make this poriyal with coconut alone or tuvar dhal alone or both. That is your option.
